The Mushroom Trip Checklist
A beautiful, practical preparation guide for your psychedelic journey. What to do before, during, and after the trip, so you can enter with clarity, surrender deeply, and integrate what the mushrooms show you.
Three things shape the field.
The checklist is not just logistics. It is a ritual container. Your intention, your environment, and your willingness to surrender all influence the journey.
Intention.
Why are you doing this trip? Why today? What do you want to learn about yourself on this journey?
Environment.
Clean the space. Remove disturbances. Make sure you feel private, safe, comfortable, and undisturbed.
Surrender.
Your work is not to force a result. Your work is to listen, trust, get curious, and let the mushrooms show you.
The 5 touchstones of a mushroom trip.
These are the principles that help you navigate both a psychedelic journey and the larger trip of life. Return to them before, during, and after the ceremony.
Use these when the journey gets real.
A mushroom trip can bring beauty, discomfort, insight, confusion, emotion, and surprise. These five touchstones help you stay oriented without trying to control the mystery.
Set your intention, stay curious, trust the medicine, surrender to the waves, and release expectations about how the journey should unfold.
Intention
Intention creates the container. Ask: why am I doing this trip, why now, and what do I want to learn or experience? Without intention, you invite chaos. With clarity, the journey has a North Star.
Curiosity
If discomfort, fear, or shadow appears, get curious instead of panicking. Ask: why is this showing up, what is it teaching me, and what am I avoiding seeing in myself?
Trust
Trust the mushrooms. Trust your body. Trust the process. When trust is present, resistance softens and the journey can lead you toward insight, healing, or growth.
Surrender
Surrender to the lesson, the discomfort, the beauty, the depth, and the love. Surrender does not mean giving up. It means flowing with the wave instead of fighting it.
No Expectations
Let go of how the trip should be. It does not need to be more visual, more blissful, or like last time. Release the expectation and allow the journey to surprise you.
Before the trip.
Prepare the body, the room, the music, the phone, the notebook, and the field. A clear container gives the journey room to unfold.
Complete these before beginning the ceremony.
Set a clear intention: why this trip, why today, and what do you want to learn?
Take 5 minutes to meditate and check in with whether today is the right time.
Double check your environment: clean, orderly, private, safe, and comfortable.
Make sure your phone is charged and your music is prepared for the trip.
Put your phone on Do Not Disturb and close any open loops before beginning.
Clear your space energetically if you use palo santo, sage, candle, or ritual.
Have a pen and notebook close by for insights, downloads, and next steps.
Light a candle to mark the beginning of the ceremony.
Tune into whether the dose feels right. Go gently if unsure.
Make sure the day after your trip is free and open for integration.
Set a stopwatch so you can keep track of how much time has elapsed.
Start the playlist and let the music hold the journey.
Find a comfortable place to lay down, close your eyes, and relax.
Remember the touchstones: intention, curiosity, trust, surrender, and no expectations.
During the trip.
During the journey, the primary practice is surrender. Be present. Stay curious. Let the mushrooms and the music guide you through what needs to move.
Use these as anchors if the journey becomes intense, strange, beautiful, or challenging.
Surrender to what comes up. Get curious about what the mushrooms show you.
If you are challenged, do not resist. Look deeper. Release. Get curious.
You may not feel anything for 20 to 30 minutes. Be patient with the opening.
The Ascent can feel bumpy. Shadows, blocks, and challenges may surface.
During the ascent, seek awareness. Do not rush toward solutions yet.
If you feel stuck, sit with the feeling and allow it to wash over you.
The Flight is where visuals, insights, downloads, and heightened music may arrive.
You can dialogue with the mushrooms. Ask questions and clarify intentions.
The Afterglow is the gentle descent. Enjoy the smooth return.
Refrain from checking your phone. Stay in the field until the trip is complete.
Reflect on what you learned and take notes while the insights are fresh.
The three stages of a mushroom trip.
Every journey is different, but many trips move through a similar arc: the takeoff, the flight, and the gentle return.
The Ascent
The rocket is taking off. This can feel smooth or bumpy. Shadows, emotions, life challenges, and blocks may rise to the surface. Do not panic. Sit back, surrender, and ride the energetic waves.
The Flight
This is the “trip” trip. You may experience closed-eye visuals, open-eye visuals, insights, downloads, and a heightened sensitivity to music, frequency, vibration, and light.
The Afterglow
You have gone up the mountain, reached the peak, and now you are gliding down. Stay with the trip, take notes, feel gratitude, and begin sensing how the lessons want to integrate into your life.
After the trip.
Integration is where the trip becomes real. Take the insight, translate it into action, and bring a piece of the frequency back into everyday life.
The ceremony continues after the effects wear off.
Congratulations. You are safely back on the ground, back in 3D reality.
Hydrate, eat fresh fruit if hungry, and get plenty of sleep and rest.
The next day, journal key insights and create a list of next steps.
For the next two weeks, use your openness to install new habits.
Implement the lessons as soon as possible so you do not lose them.
Ask what homework the mushrooms gave you: apology, forgiveness, closure, action?
Do not despair if the frequency fades. Bring a little more back each time.
Refine your personal protocol. What would you do differently next time?
If you need help preparing or integrating, book a 1:1 guidance call.
Give thanks to the plant teachers for guiding you on your soul’s path.
Take action. Get back into the video game of life and play full out.
Aligned action creates integration.
The day after a trip, you may feel a renewed desire to make the most of your life. Use that opening wisely. Journal what you learned, write down the key insights, and create a simple list of next steps.
Do not procrastinate during this window. Whatever lessons you received, implement them and integrate them as soon as possible. Otherwise, the insight stays mystical but never becomes embodied.
The goal is not to stay permanently in the mushroom frequency. The goal is to bring a little piece of that higher frequency back into your normal reality.
“The insight matters when it becomes lived.”
Prepare the space. Open the field. Trust the journey.
Use this checklist before your trip, return to it during integration, and keep refining your own personal protocol each time.
